It's just the job.

| I've been using an unbranded Maplin's mini camcorder for the last year and it performs very well in most circumstances, but the 640 x 480 picture size is a problem. I am happy to say that the Creative Vado is a very suitable upgrade. White balance is good, lens is a nice wide angle, and indoor lighting is handled very well. The USB extension cable supplied with the camera doesn't work, but luckily I had another one which is fine. As long as you don't use the zoom (picture quality deteriorates alarmingly), the picture is very sharp, and colour saturation is high (maybe a bit too high for some people, but I like it). Would recommend. |
Not Worth Buying!

I bought this video camera in Nov 09 and during that time it seemed that this was the best camera to get. How was I wrong.
Pros:
* It's cheaper than a lot of other cameras
* Direct YouTube upload
* Wide-angle lens
Cons:
* Button clicks are heard when recording
* Can only zoom in a short distance
* No ability to turn off wide-angle recording
* Doesn't record well in low-light conditions
* Static background noise in videos
* No codec support so video playback is out of sync
* Can't playback HD or HD+ videos with low-end graphics (netbook)
* Can't edit in Adobe Premier or Windows Movie Maker (Video is black)
* Contrast way too high, so colour is darker and not natural (This is particularly bad if you record in a room with bright light, as it will make the video look saturated and grainy)
Yes the camera does record at 720p but in no way at all is this an HD camera even as a low-end one. You're better off using the iPhone 4 which has a MUCH better camera. For the same price now you can buy an older model HD video camcorder like a Sony, Panasonic or JVC. It's not a pocket camera but it would record in proper HD quality. |
Easy enough for an 8 year old to use.

Great product. Having seen several decent reviews we bought this for our 8 year old.
It's really easy to use and the picture quality is very good for the price. |

| The camcorder itself is brilliant. Unfortunately, the software sucks. Had to download newer drivers and software and then spend ages trying to get it to work. Used it on Vista and XP Pro and I would like to be able to record live to PC but haven't worked out how to yet. This is something that I would think most people would like to do and wonder why they don't make it easy!!! Or am I just stoopid???? Connected with USB and HDMI and still can't do it. Also, everytime I connect it, why does my O/S keep telling me that the hardware I have connected is 'corrupt' and do I want to scan it/defrag it/format it? Would be interested to know if I've just bought a camcorder built on a Friday afternoon??? |
Nice little bit of kit.

Well, what can I say? I bought this after my flip ultra sustained lcd damage.
The Vado is not only smaller, lighter and more stylish than the flip but the picture quality is comparable if not better!
Why 4 stars and not 5?
As with all the handheld hd recorders that I've tried, it could do with some image stabilising software.
Buy it. It's a wee cracker! |
